William Whetsell, M.D.

The lecture, entitled “Learning, Memory and the Aging Brain,” was the 16th lecture in the Stowell Lecture Series established in l993 in honor of Robert E. Stowell, M.D. Stowell is the former scientific director of the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (1959-1967) and former chair of the Department of Pathology at the University of California at Davis. He is a past president of the American Registry of Pathology and a founding member of Universities Associated for Research and Education in Pathology.

Whetsell joined Vanderbilt’s Department of Pathology as professor and director of Neuropathology in l983. He retired from active practice in 2005, but continues conducting research and consulting in the areas of brain development and neurodegenerative disorders.
