Musee named to ACGME review committee
Feb. 20, 2014—Joel Musee, M.D., Ph.D., a second-year resident in Vanderbilt’s Department of Anesthesiology, has been selected from a national pool of applicants to serve on the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Review Committee for Anesthesiology.
Division mines perioperative data to enhance safety, quality
Feb. 13, 2014—The Vanderbilt Anesthesiology and Perioperative Informatics Research (VAPIR) Division was recently established to extract and analyze data from Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s archive of de-identified perioperative patient data comprising more than 729,000 completed surgical cases to help improve patient safety and quality of care.
New tool helps track residents’ progress
Jan. 16, 2014—Dramatic changes are coming to the way resident physicians in all medical specialties are evaluated as they advance through training. Faculty with the Department of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) have developed an automated tool to help more accurately assess residents’ performance as they meet educational goals and ultimately become better doctors.
GE grant expands global medical outreach efforts
Dec. 12, 2013—Vanderbilt University has received a $3 million grant from the GE Foundation’s Developing Health Globally program to fund international medical education and research in Kenya and other low-resource regions of the world.

Jun. 27, 2013—Jesse Ehrenfeld, M.D., MPH, associate professor of Anesthesiology, Surgery and Biomedical Informatics, has been named editor-in-chief of the Journal of Medical Systems, succeeding Ralph Grams, M.D., professor of Pathology and Medical Informatics at the University of Florida College of Medicine.
Dobie named chief of Division of Ambulatory Anesthesiology
Jun. 13, 2013—Katherine Dobie, M.D., has been appointed chief of the Division of Ambulatory Anesthesiology, succeeding Shannon Hersey, M.D., who accepted a position as medical director of Anesthesia Operations at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
