Patient and Family Promise key to Medical Center’s success

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) makes this promise to patients and their families: to include them as a member of the health care team, respect their privacy, coordinate and personalize their care, communicate clearly and serve them with kindness and respect. Delivering on that promise was the theme of Wednesday’s Winter Leadership Assembly in Langford Auditorium.

Assembly highlights value of VUMC’s people, culture

With the theme of “It’s About People,” Jeff Balser M.D., Ph.D., President and CEO of Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, began the Summer Clinical Enterprise Leadership Assembly by urging nearly 1,000 Medical Center leaders in attendance in Langford Auditorium to consider the emotional needs of members of their teams. In particular, he asked leaders to recognize the psychological impact of recent tragic events happening across the U.S. and in other nations.

Improvements strengthen VUMC’s core missions: Balser

Last month’s announcement to restructure Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a “financially distinct” entity from Vanderbilt University will give the Medical Center more flexibility and allow it to access capital as it continues to build the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network, now close to 45 affiliated hospitals strong, and invest in programs and facilities on the main campus in ways that will positively impact clinical programs as well as the research and educational missions, Jeff Balser, M.D., Ph.D., vice chancellor for Health Affairs and dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, said during Wednesday’s Winter 2014 Clinical Enterprise Leadership Assembly.
