VUMC New Year’s babies bring bright start to 2021

Welcome, Graham; welcome, Nike; welcome, Oakley Rose!

In the first hours after 2020 gave way to 2021, several new citizens of earth made their debut at VUMC, the first Vanderbilt babies of the new year. Above, the first baby of the year at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital — Nike Bentez Freeman, who was born to Jordan Freeman and Nick Vantrease of Lebanon at 2:05 a.m. on Jan. 1. He weighed 6 lbs., 5 oz., and was 18 inches long.

Baby boy Graham was born to Emily Kurley and her husband Jordan Kurley at Baby+Company, VUMC’s free-standing birth center, at 06:43 a.m. Jan. 1. He weighed 7 lbs., 6 oz., and was 19 1/2 inches long.
Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital became part of Vanderbilt when the purchase of the facility became official at midnight. A little over an hour later, Oakley Rose Hillis was born to Christina and Matthew Hillis of Fayetteville. She became the first baby born at the “new” Vanderbilt hospital at 1:12 a.m. on Jan. 1. Oakley weighed 6 lbs., 8 1/2 ozs., and was 18 3/4 inches long.
