Vanderbilt Health name conventions

Whether you’re a Vanderbilt Health (VH) colleague or a reporter covering VH, here’s a quick guide to how to refer to our hospitals, clinics and campus. Use the full name the first time, then the short form on later references. Collective term: use “Regional Hospitals,” not “the Regionals.”

First reference Second reference Notes
Vanderbilt Health VH (print/online) The name for the system as a whole. Use VUMC only for contracts, policies and regulatory or legal references, never for the system or Central Campus.
Central Campus — Preferred over “Main Campus” as of November 2026.
Vanderbilt University Hospital VUH Never VAH or VUAH, and don’t add “Adult.”
Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt Monroe Carell
Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital VPH
Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital VSRH Partly owned by a joint venture partner, so don’t call it wholly owned.
Jim Ayers Tower — Always the full name, never “Ayers Tower,” “JAT” or “the Tower.”
Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital (Shelbyville) VBCH
Vanderbilt Clarksville Hospital VCH
Vanderbilt Tullahoma-Harton Hospital VTHH
Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital (Lebanon) VWCH
Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Vanderbilt-Ingram
Vanderbilt Behavioral Health VBH
