Larry (Taylor) Davis, MD, assistant professor of Radiology and Neurology, has been named section chief of Neuroradiology.
As section chief, Davis will provide leadership for the Neuroradiology section and will serve as a liaison between the section’s 14 faculty members and departmental leadership. He will also oversee all neuroradiology diagnostic imaging and interventional procedures performed at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and its outpatient imaging sites located throughout middle Tennessee.
“Our Neuroradiology section is filled with faculty members who are committed to providing exceptional patient care, educating future radiology leaders and performing innovative research,” said Davis. “I am honored and excited to serve as the section chief of such a talented and dedicated group.”
Prior to Davis’ appointment, Jeff Creasy, MD, professor of Radiology, held a five-year term as Neuroradiology section chief, beginning in 2015. Creasy will continue serving the department as program director for the Neuroradiology Fellowship program and as faculty in the Neuroradiology section.
“Dr. Creasy was instrumental in the expansion of the fellowship program and recruitment of several outstanding faculty members who are already making a huge impact at VUMC,” added Davis. “What is an even more notable achievement, however, is the collegial culture he was able to foster during his time as section chief.”
In addition to his new role, Davis will remain course director for Vanderbilt University School of Medicine’s Advanced Clinical Experience (ACE) Neuroradiology course for third- and fourth-year medical students.
“Dr. Davis’ clinical excellence, proficiency at teaching, research activity and well-respected reputation around the Medical Center all portend excellence in his role as Neuroradiology section chief,” said Creasy. “I am very excited for him, and for the department, in this appointment.”
“I would like to thank Dr. Creasy for his stellar leadership of the neuro section over the last five years,” added Reed Omary, MD, MS, Carol D. and Henry P. Pendergrass Professor and Chair, Department of Radiology. “I am excited to welcome Dr. Davis into this role. He is the perfect choice for this important position, and I look forward to seeing his many future accomplishments as section chief.”
Davis earned his bachelor and medical degrees from Vanderbilt University. He subsequently completed his residency and fellowship training in diagnostic radiology and neuroradiology, respectively, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Immediately upon completion of his fellowship in 2014, he accepted a position as faculty in VUMC’s Department of Radiology. His research interests include utilizing conventional and advanced MRI techniques including functional brain MRI (fMRI) using blood oxygenation level dependent (BOLD) technique and arterial spin labeling (ASL), vessel wall imaging (VWI) and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) in the study of various neurologic diseases.
