Ashish Shah, MD, chair of Cardiac Surgery, Carmen Solórzano, MD, chair of Surgery, and Seth Karp, MD, chair of the Section of Surgical Sciences and director of the Vanderbilt Transplant Center, welcome Sara Shumway, MD, (second from left), prior to her delivering the 2022 Shumway Lecture in Transplantation at VUMC on April 15. The endowed lectureship is named for her late father, transplant pioneer Norman Shumway, MD, PhD. Like her father, Sara Shumway earned her MD from Vanderbilt, and she also has become prominent in the field of heart and lung transplantation. In her talk she recounted more than 50 years of progress in cardio-thoracic transplantation. (photo by Deborah Doyle)
