Yifan Cheng, PhD, a leader in electron microscopy technology development and structural studies of biological macromolecules, will deliver the next Discovery Lecture on Thursday, March 9.
His presentation, “Single particle cryo-EM of INO80: the basis of its mechanistic versatility,” begins at 4 p.m. in 208 Light Hall and will also be livestreamed.
Cheng, professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator, will provide a brief introduction to the current technological status of single particle cryo-EM (cryogenic electron microscopy). He will describe his team’s research using single particle cryo-EM to study INO80, an ATP-dependent chromatin remodeling complex.
Cheng is an elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences. He received the Christian B. Anfinsen Award from The Protein Society in 2018.
Cheng’s lecture is sponsored by the Department of Biochemistry and the Center for Structural Biology. For a complete schedule of Discovery Lectures, archived video of previous lectures, and the livestream link, go to https://www.vumc.org/dls/.
