Credo Awards hit 15-year milestone

168 winners (so far) of the honor for exemplary employees

Credo Awards are given to employees who are nominated by other employees on the basis of  demonstrating credo behaviors — that is: they make those they serve the highest priority; respect privacy and confidentiality; communicate effectively; conduct themselves professionally; have a sense of ownership; and are committed to their colleagues.

The awards were first given in December 2008, and at the most recent Leadership Assembly on Jan. 25, C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer, honored the latest winners of the Credo Award and made note of the 15-year milestone.

“This represents 15 years of celebrating Credo winners at VUMC,” he said. “That’s right — we’ve been recognizing and applauding the work of some of our most motivated and motivating colleagues for a decade and a half!”

According to Maranatha Bigos, senior learning consultant in Human Resources, who oversees Credo Awards, there have been 168 winners to date, representing 99 job roles.

“I love getting to meet these amazing individuals that represent so many different roles and departments across the Medical Center,” she said.

In the early days of the award, winners were named as part of the VUMC Reporter’s coverage of each Leadership Assembly (a link to those stories is here), but beginning with the December 2017 assembly, each winner has also been honored with an article in VUMC Voice, the Medical Center’s online employee magazine.
