How to find older online issues of VUMC publications

Archives of discontinued publications or those that have changed servers or hosts over time are also still available online, sometimes in a hit-or-miss fashion.

VUMC News and Communications has published numerous magazines and other online content over many years. While the VUMC Reporter, the Medical Center’s newspaper, and VUMC Voice, the online employee feature magazine are archived at this news site, archives of discontinued publications or those that have changed servers or hosts over time are also still available online, sometimes in a hit-or-miss fashion.

House Organ

House Organ was an award-winning employee feature magazine. It was published monthly from 1982-2012. A few issues in its last years were online-only. House Organ archives (2002-2010): https://www.vanderbilt.edu/houseorgan/back-issues/

Example: https://houseorgan.newsarchive.vumc.org/vumcpub/index.html?pubID=7&articleID=157

This archive cuts off before House Organ stopped publication in 2012, and is also hit-or-miss. An example is this issue, which appears to be functioning, but when you click on the link, it doesn’t work: https://houseorgan.newsarchive.vumc.org/vumcpub/index.html?pubID=7&issueID=127

Also, some issues not included in the 2002-2010 archive page are actually online, but have to accessed individually by Google. An example is the final issue from June, 2012, in which VUMC leaders were asked about the institution’s future: https://www.vanderbilt.edu/houseorgan/2012/06/the-future-is-all-around-us/

Get the NAC

Here are the remains of the department’s blog, “Get the NAC”, which moved to a University server and died in about 2011. This archive of material posted before then, somehow, is still available here.

Lens

Lens magazine was a science publication edited by Bill Snyder which was combined with the University’s science publication Exploration into the website “Research at Vanderbilt.” Here’s an article posted when that merger occurred. “Research at Vanderbilt” still exists as the site “Research News at Vanderbilt,” although the current site doesn’t seem to link back to the Lens content. However, the (incomplete) Lens online archive is in the VU Institutional Repository here. A sample issue from the Lens archive.

Vanderbilt Nurse

Vanderbilt Nurse’s site has this link to previous issues, covering from 2005-2021.

The Vanderbilt Nurse magazine collection in VU Institutional Repository is here. It covers 14 issue from 2001-2008. VUMC N&C edited the magazine during this time.

Vanderbilt Medicine

Vanderbilt Medicine’s archive at its main site is divided by date. The issues from 2002-2014 are downloadable PDFs here. From Summer 2014 to the present are here.

The Vanderbilt Medicine magazine collection in VU Institutional Repository is here. It covers 23 issues from 1999-2010.

Hope

Hope’s older issues back to 2018 are linked to in PDF form on the Hope site.

Momentum

Past issues of Momentum are archived as PDF right on the publication’s home page. They go back to 2006.
