Cathy Eng, MD, the David H. Johnson Professor of Surgical and Medical Oncology, will participate in a congressional briefing on April 15 focused on “Addressing Representation in Clinical Trials.” The goal of the briefing is to educate congressional staff on the impacts of key legislation to improve clinical trial diversity.

The briefing is being organized by the Alliance for Cancer Care Equity, a coalition led by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, the National Minority Quality Forum, and the National Comprehensive Care Network. The Alliance’s focus is on advancing access to equitable care, including advocating for trial diversity, improved screening, and access to patient care navigation.

Eng, a professor of Medicine, Hematology and Oncology, is co-director of Gastrointestinal Oncology and co-leader of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Research Program at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, where she also is director of the Young Adult Cancers Program.

She will be one of five speakers at the briefing. The speakers include a patient advocate and representatives from academic cancer centers as well as health care advocacy organizations.
