On May 14, two groups at Vanderbilt University Medical Center — the Center for Clinical Quality and Implementation Research and the Center for Learning Healthcare — together hosted the Vanderbilt Symposium on Implementation Research in the Learning Health System.

The event, held at the Engineering and Science Building, brought together researchers, clinicians and operational departments to share insights and practical knowledge on integrating research into clinical care to improve patient outcomes.

Keynote speaker Hayden Bosworth, PhD, MS, professor of population health sciences at Duke University, spoke on “Revolutionizing Health Care — Pragmatic Trials and Implementation Science: A Collaborative Approach to Health System Improvement.”

Catherine Ivory, PhD, RN-BC, RNC-OB, NEA-BC

The event included panel discussions on conducting multicenter pragmatic trials and implementing artificial intelligence models into practice. A poster session showcased VUMC projects in implementation science, quality improvement research, and embedded research in the learning health system.

During the symposium, Catherine Ivory, PhD, RN, associate professor of Nursing and Biomedical Informatics, was honored with the Outstanding Operational Partner Award. The award recognizes administrators who have helped unite clinical research and clinical operations at VUMC to evaluate and implement new approaches to care.
