Terrance Adams, MBA, has been named Chief Operating Officer of Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital (VBH). Adams will begin his new role on Sept. 9.
As Chief Operating Officer, Adams will report to Travis Capers, FACHE, president of Vanderbilt Regional Community Hospitals.
“Terrance has the skills, drive and experience to take on this responsibility,” Capers said. “We are excited and are confident he will be an asset within our Medical Center’s leadership team as we continue to improve and meet goals in the dimensions of people, quality, services, finance, growth and innovation.”
Adams will have operational responsibility for the hospital that includes ensuring success through quality enhancement, cost containment, revenue growth and development of strong relationships with hospital staff, board members and community. As COO he will champion patient-focused, high-performance, results-oriented operations which will support the mission, vision, credo and business operations of VBH.
VBH achieved a number of quality and safety results after acquisition, including Leap Frog Grade A for a fourth straight time and ranking by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services as a four-star hospital. VBH has seen year-over-year growth in discharges 23%, ED visits 6.5% and surgeries 38%. Over the last two years, VBH has added Vanderbilt Medical Group, plastic surgery and weight loss surgery programs to the region.

Adams joins VBH from Lifepoint Health where he served as the Resource Chief Executive Officer. Prior to that he served as Chief Executive Officer of Ascension Saint Thomas Rehabilitation Hospital.
Adams has a master’s in business administration from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Adams said VBH’s deep roots in the community give him an opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of patients and residents by improving access to care and enhancing health outcomes.
