Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital (VBH) earned its sixth consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Grade for spring 2025 from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit focused on patient safety.
Leapfrog assigns a safety grade from “A” to “F” to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them. This straight “A” designation honors the hospital for its continued preventive measures taken against harm.
“I want to congratulate the entire team with Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital for these outstanding results. An intense focus on quality and safety initiatives led to this sixth consecutive “A” score. The commitment of our physicians, nurses and staff to provide superior care to each patient is inspiring,” said C. Wright Pinson, MBA, MD, Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief Health System Officer for Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“Our team, from clinical staff to administrators, has built a culture of accountability and continuous improvement that is reflected in this designation,” said Kerri Laughlin, MBA, RN, Chief Quality Officer at VBH. “We take immense pride in creating an environment where patients can feel confident in their care, knowing that safety and quality are our top priorities.”
“We strive to elevate the health and well-being of the families and individuals we serve throughout Middle Tennessee,” said Travis Capers, President of Vanderbilt Regional Community Hospitals. “Vanderbilt will continue its ongoing investment in the community to deliver high-quality care close to home.”
“Achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade reflects enormous dedication to patient safety,” said Leah Binder, President and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I extend my congratulations to Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital, its leadership, clinicians, staff and volunteers for creating a culture where patients come first.”
