Study Description
The purpose of this study to test hearing technologies that may help people who have hearing loss in both ears or in only one ear.
Participation Criteria
If your child meets the following criteria, they may be eligible to participate in the study:
· Your child is between the ages of 8 and 17 years
· Your child has a hearing loss in both ears
· Your child has worn hearing instruments for more than 6 months
· Your child does not have any cognitive or developmental delays and no sensory processing or neurogenic disorders
Study Tasks or Visits
Participants will:
· Receive a hearing screening
· Be fit with research hearing instruments
· Repeat sentences with background noise present
· Adjust hearing aid settings to understand speech well
· Compare different listening programs
· Answer questionnaires
Study Length
1-3 visits to the lab at VUMC with each visit lasting no more than three hours
Compensation
Your child will receive $30 for each lab visit and parent will receive a $50 gift card if the child wears the study hearing aids for a home trial
