Vanderbilt University Medical Center was ranked in the top 1% of sports medicine research hospitals in the United States by Avant-garde Health’s Healthcare Research All-Stars report. This recognition honors the quantity and quality of the sports research authored and published by VUMC physicians and researchers.
The Healthcare Research All-Stars lists are compiled by Avant-garde Health, provider of solutions for improving perioperative quality and profitability, and include only the top 5% of hospitals and physicians publishing leading-edge research in sports medicine care.

“We are honored to have our work recognized by Avant-garde,” said John (Jed) Kuhn, MD, MS, ASES-NCF, the Kenneth Schermerhorn Professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and chief of the Division of Sports Medicine. “Vanderbilt Sports Medicine is a pioneer in leading and conducting multicenter research. Our work is focused on finding answers to clinically important questions in the sports medicine world, and the physicians and researchers in our division have made profound impacts on the lives of our patients and patients around the world.”
More than 424,000 physicians and 4,700 hospitals were considered for the awards.
“We are excited to include Vanderbilt University Medical Center in our inaugural list of Sports Medicine Research All-Stars for 2025,” said Derek Haas, CEO and founder of Avant-garde Health. “We are grateful for their dedication and contributions to improvements in sports medicine and honored to highlight their achievements in this study.”
