Significant changes are coming to how VUMC manages work devices, which will help ensure these devices are secure, reliable and up to date. Starting July 1, all VUMC-issued devices — like laptops, desktops and tablets — will be purchased and managed by VUMC IT rather than individual departments.
This shift to centralized device management is designed to make things easier, and more efficient and cost-effective for everyone across the organization.
Why the change?
Centralizing device ownership will unlock several benefits, including:
- Better security and updates: Devices will receive timely software updates and upgrades to ensure they stay secure and perform at their best.
- Lower costs for departments: Department budgets will no longer carry the burden of device purchases or replacements.
- Streamlined device management and replacement: Outdated devices will be recycled and replaced on schedule, keeping everything running smoothly.
What does this mean for your device?
After July 1, VUMC IT will handle updating and replacing work devices when needed. Employees will be notified when it is time for a new device and given instructions on how to receive it.
It is important to note that the process for bulk ordering devices will not change. Departments that order devices in large quantities should continue to do so in the same way.
