VUMC Pets of the Day: Cookie and Blueberry

Today’s first Dog of the Day is Cookie, submitted by Lucretia Glen of Vanderbilt Children’s Surgery Clinic in Murfreesboro. “Cookie is a Maltese/dachshund mix. She is a snuggle bug who loves to cuddle.”

Today’s second Dog of the Day is Blueberry, submitted by Lucy Phillips (Shaffer) of Hematology/Oncology. “This is my almost 11-year-old pup named, Blueberry. I adopted her at 5 weeks old (the same age I was adopted!) and she came from an entire litter named after fruits — and it just so happened that Blu kept circling my feet as I was trying to decide, so I guess you can say we chose each other. Blu is a chow-pit mix with blue spots on her tongue. She loves everyone she meets and will give you kisses until you tell her to stop! She’s my baby and I love her so much!”

Pets of the Day — what you need to know

The Vanderbilt University Medical Center Pets of the Day are included in regular editions of the MyVUMC News newsletter, which is posted twice a week by VUMC News and Communications.

The pets are selected from the hundreds of entries sent to the VUMC Voice Pet Photo Contest.

For those who submitted a photo to that contest, watch MyVUMC News for Pets of the Day, and in addition, regular collections of pet photos are posted to the VUMC Voice site. You can see them all here: https://news.vumc.org/section/voice/pets-vumc/.

If you have a pet you would like to nominate for Pet of the Day, the next Pet Photo Contest submission period is coming up later this year, and will be announced in MyVUMC News.

Cookie and Blueberry were featured in the Nov. 13, 2025, edition of MyVUMC News.
