“Order from Chaos, Accelerating Care Integration,” is a report now arriving on the desks of health care executives. It’s based on a roundtable convened by the Lucian Leape Institute (LLI) at the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF).
Among the 20 participants were Vanderbilt University Medical Center’s David Posch, CEO of Vanderbilt University Hospital and Clinics, and Julie Morath, R.N., M.S., chief quality and safety officer and a member of LLI.
The new report is backed up by research from LLI and serves as a summary of the organization’s position on integration of care. It’s the second in a planned series setting out strategies for safety.
NPSF — whose board of directors is chaired by Gerald Hickson, M.D., assistant vice chancellor for Health Affairs and associate dean for Faculty Affairs — has a goal of improving health care safety. LLI is focused on five areas: medical education reform, consumer engagement in health care, transparency in health care, integration of care within and across delivery systems, and “restoration of joy and meaning in work and ensuring the safety of the health care workforce.”
