Margaret Haney, PhD, director of the Cannabis Research Laboratory at Columbia University Medical Center, will discuss “The Yin and Yang of Cannabis” Friday, Nov. 16, during the second annual Science Day hosted by the Vanderbilt Center for Addiction Research (VCAR).
Haney, professor of Neurobiology and co-director of the Substance Use Research Center at Columbia, is one of three speakers during the half-day event, which will begin at 8 a.m. at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville. Haney’s talk will begin at 11 a.m.
The other speakers are:
- Sachin Patel, MD, PhD, James G. Blakemore Professor of Psychiatry and director of the Division of Addiction Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine; and
- Kent Hutchison, PhD, professor of Psychology and Neuroscience at the University of Colorado Boulder and co-director of the CUChange Lab, which conducts transdisciplinary research on factors that contribute to healthy as well as risky behaviors.
Patel, whose talk begins at 9 a.m., will discuss the “Physiology and Pharmacology of Cannabis and Endocannabinoid Lipids: Health Effects to Homeostatic Biology.” Hutchison’s talk, entitled “Flowers, Edibles, and Concentrates: Testing the Effects of Products Available in State-Legalized Markets,” will follow at 9:45 a.m.
At the conclusion of Haney’s talk, a poster session and reception will be held in the lobby of Vanderbilt’s Langford Auditorium from noon to 2:30 p.m.
