Seven named as fellows of Medical Informatics Association

Seven Vanderbilt University Medical Center employees are among an inaugural group of 130 fellows of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA).

Seven Vanderbilt University Medical Center employees are among an inaugural group of 130 fellows of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA).

The new honorary program for AMIA members is meant to recognize professional achievement in the application of information science to serve clinical teams and biomedical research. The fellows will be inducted at the AMIA 2019 Clinical Informatics Conference in Atlanta. The seven new fellows of AMIA from VUMC are:

  • Robert Cronin, MD, MS, MEng, assistant professor of Biomedical Informatics, Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, whose research is devoted to identifying and managing information needs of patients and caregivers;
  • Jesse Ehrenfeld, MD, MPH, professor of Anesthesiology, Biomedical Informatics, Health Policy and Surgery, whose research focuses on understanding how information technology can improve surgical safety and patient outcomes;
  • Gretchen Purcell Jackson, MD, PhD, associate professor of Pediatric Surgery, Pediatrics and Biomedical Informatics, whose research focuses on understanding how social media and technologies such as the internet can help patients and families take active roles in their health care;
  • Sina Madani, MD, PhD, principal knowledge engineer with HealthIT, who works on data standardization and natural language processing as they apply to automated clinical decision support systems;
  • Allison McCoy, PhD, MS, assistant professor of Biomedical Informatics, whose research is focused on evaluating and improving electronic health records and automated clinical decision support;
  • Jeremy Warner, MD, MS, associate professor of Medicine and Biomedical Informatics, whose research is focused on methodologies for using structured and unstructured clinical data to improve care for cancer patients;
  • Stuart Weinberg, MD, associate professor of Biomedical Informatics and Pediatrics, who lists among his research interests clinical decision support, clinical reminders, web services, immunization registries and personal health records.
