On Oct. 30, Value-Based Care University (VBCU), an initiative of the MidSouth Practice Transformation Network (PTN), is hosting its first educational event for frontline clinicians, and the free event can be attended either in person or through a live webinar.
Value-based care is a payment model in which medical providers have financial incentives for helping patients improve their health and reduce the incidence and effects of chronic disease.
“A challenge faced by today’s U.S. health care system is that providers and staff can experience burnout, which can impact care delivery and outcomes,” said R. Kirkland Ahern-Jones, MAC, MBA, director of Operations for the MidSouth PTN, which is based at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. “Value-based care incentivizes better clinical and operational performance, improving workflows for staff and allowing the care team to focus fully on their patients.
“VUMC’s Value-Based Care University fills potential knowledge gaps and provides resources to frontline clinicians navigating our ever-changing landscape of value-based care. It is our goal for VBCU to equip those in the Mid-South and beyond with the knowledge and resources they need to effectively improve patient care while lowering costs,” Ahern-Jones said.
The VBCU event will cover:
- Current and future value-based care models
- Readiness for risk
- Change management
- Leveraging measures, metrics and health information technology (HIT)
- Actionable tools and resources
Speakers include faculty from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), physicians, health care executives, and value-based care subject matter experts. David Hanekom, MD, Chief Executive Officer and chief medical officer of the Arizona Care Network will present the keynote address.
Other speakers during the event include Sarah Chouinard, MD, chief medical officer at Community Care of West Virginia; Michael Weiss, MD, from SW Pediatrics PTN; and Russell Rothman, MD, MPP, Mid-South PTN principal investigator and vice president for Population Health Research at VUMC.
The VBCU event is 5:45-8:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 at the First Tennessee Theatre at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, with a live webinar for online attendees. Register at tinyurl.com/y64h33lf by Oct. 28. This activity has been approved for CME AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.
The MidSouth PTN is a partnership between VUMC, the Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network, Baptist Memorial Health Care, the Mississippi Affiliated Health Network and the Safety Net Consortium of Middle Tennessee.
VBCU is supported by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services-Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative, grant number 1CMS331549-03-00.
