Donald Brady, MD, executive vice dean for Academic Affairs, has announced a number of leadership promotions within Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
Cody Chastain, MD, assistant professor of Medicine, has been promoted to assistant dean for Undergraduate Medical Education Program Evaluation and Improvement, effective Feb. 1. Chastain will provide senior leadership over evaluation of the Doctor of Medicine program and MD student assessment systems and processes.
Bill Cutrer, MD, M.Ed, associate professor of Pediatrics and Anesthesiology, has been promoted to senior associate dean for Undergraduate Medical Education and associate Vice President for Educational Affairs, effective April 1.
In addition to his current duties, Cutrer, former associate dean for Undergraduate Medical Education, will have administrative oversight of VUSM’s ongoing efforts to improve the learning environment and administrative oversight of the Center for Experiential Learning and Assessment.
Amy Fleming, MD, MScHPE, professor of Pediatrics and professor of Medical Education and Administration, former associate dean for Medical Student Affairs, has been promoted to a new role of senior associate dean for Medical Student and Alumni Affairs, effective Feb. 1. She will have administrative oversight of the admissions process for the MD programs in the School of Medicine and of alumni affairs for VUSM and Vanderbilt University Medical Center, in addition to oversight of her current responsibilities in Medical Student Affairs.
Charles Lei, MD, assistant professor of Emergency Medicine, has been named director of the Center for Experiential Learning and Assessment and assistant dean for Simulation in Medicine Education, effective March 1.
In these roles he will promote and implement simulation training across the medical education continuum for health care providers. He will be responsible for educational oversight of all aspects of CELA and its associated educational programs related to the use of simulation, including daily operational activities of the Simulation Technologies Program (STP), Program in Human Simulation and Surgical and Anatomical Simulation.
Donna Rosenstiel, LCSW, has been promoted to associate dean for Health Sciences Education, effective Feb. 1. In this role, Rosenstiel, former assistant dean for Health Sciences Education, will continue to provide senior leadership over the non-MD degree programs, which include Master of Science in Applied Clinical Informatics, Master of Science in Clinical Investigation, Master of Genetic Counseling, Master of Imaging Science, Master of Public Health, Doctor of Audiology, Master of Education of the Deaf, Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, Doctorate of Medical Physics and Master of Science in Medical Physics.
“These promotions recognize the outstanding contributions of these individuals to the education mission of VUMC and the School of Medicine and will enable the Office of Health Sciences Education (OHSE) to gain some efficiencies as we evolve our administrative structure in OHSE,” Brady said. “With these moves, we poise Vanderbilt to continue its national and international leadership in health sciences education. I’m very proud of each of these persons and am indebted to them for their dedication and service.”
