Jeff Balser’s announcement culminates a career-long journey that began at Vanderbilt in the mid-1980s as a medical student and doctoral dual degree candidate.

Dr. Hill transformed medical education at Vanderbilt and conducted groundbreaking research on African sleeping sickness.

This completely virtual program provides a 36-credit-hour curriculum over 21 months, with a coursework-intensive first year followed by a practicum and a mentored capstone project.

The partnership builds on established exchanges and collaborations, as well as joint working groups between Vanderbilt partners, the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) and the German Heart Center at Charité.

They created a guidebook that covers everything from finding obstetrical care and early planning for childcare to the locations of lactation rooms at VUMC.

Parekh succeeds Kyla Terhune, MD, MBA, who was named Senior Vice President for Education at the American College of Surgeons, effective Nov. 1.
