Zic to pass baton on leadership of VUSM Admissions
Over the past eight years as Vanderbilt University School of Medicine’s associate dean for Admissions, John Zic, M.D., estimates he’s made about 2,000 phone calls to let prospective medical students know they’ve been admitted. Personally delivering the good news has been one of his favorite aspects of the time-consuming job. -

New tool helps track residents’ progress
Dramatic changes are coming to the way resident physicians in all medical specialties are evaluated as they advance through training. Faculty with the Department of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) have developed an automated tool to help more accurately assess residents’ performance as they meet educational goals and ultimately become better doctors. -

Brady, Rothman set for AACH leadership roles
Donald Brady, M.D., senior associate dean for Graduate Medical Education and Continuing Professional Development, will serve a one-year term as chair of the board of directors of the American Academy on Communication in Healthcare (AACH) for 2014. Brady spent this year serving as president and will transition into a one-year role as chair. -

Winder named associate director of MSTP program
Danny Winder, Ph.D., professor of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics, has been appointed associate director of the Vanderbilt Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP), which enables future leaders in academic medicine to earn both M.D. and Ph.D. degrees.
