Nominations for the 2023 Vanderbilt Prize Student Scholar are invited through April 28.
Candidates for the Vanderbilt Prize Student Scholar are female graduate students in biomedical sciences at Vanderbilt (PhD or MD/PhD track) who have completed the qualifying exam and have at least one year left to complete the PhD degree.
Competitive nominees demonstrate excellent leadership qualities through their research and service to the scientific community, as well as characteristics that exhibit outstanding potential to impact medicine through research during their careers.
The Vanderbilt Prize Student Scholar receives a $1,000 cash prize and will be mentored for a year by the 2023 recipient of the Vanderbilt Prize in Biomedical Science, Professor Dame Frances Ashcroft, an Oxford University physiologist known internationally for her work on insulin secretion, Type 2 diabetes and neonatal diabetes.
The Vanderbilt Prize Student Scholar will be recognized during Ashcroft’s Discovery Lecture, to be held at VUMC later this year.
Nominations are accepted from department chairs or program directors in the biomedical sciences, as well as directors of graduate studies and faculty mentors. Nomination materials should include:
- Nominee’s CV.
- Nomination letter from the faculty mentor, adviser or nominator.
- Copy of the nominee’s thesis proposal.
- Committee report from the nominee’s qualifying examination.
