VUSN’s Moore-Davis to attend NIH’s Summer Genetics Institute
Vanderbilt University School of Nursing instructor Tonia Moore-Davis, CNM, MSN, has been selected to attend the National Institute of Nursing Research Summer Genetics Institute (SGI) at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Md., this June.
The SGI is designed to provide a foundation in molecular genetics to use in future research, clinical practice and teaching activities.

In addition to her faculty role in VUSN’s Nurse-Midwifery program, Moore-Davis is pursuing her Ph.D. at the University of Colorado – Denver, College of Nursing. The SGI program will benefit her teaching as well as her research interests in transgenerational epigenetic factors associated with preterm birth.
“VUSN is pleased to have a faculty member selected for this prestigious program. The field of genetics and genomics is expanding and will impact health care across the lifespan,” said Mavis Schorn, PhD, CNM, assistant dean for Academics and director of VUSN’s Nurse-Midwifery program.
“A faculty member with this expertise is necessary so that curricula can change to keep up with the advances in the field. We are lucky to have Tonia at VUSN, and we look forward to her success.”
The program is administered by the Foundation for the Advanced Education in the Sciences and sponsored by the NINR.
