TN Global Health Forum set for Feb. 23
The connections between poverty and ill health — and how to overcome both — will be explored Wednesday, Feb. 23, during the third annual Tennessee Global Health Forum at the Vanderbilt Student Life Center.
Sponsored by the Vanderbilt Institute for Global Health, the daylong forum will feature a wide variety of experts in health care, education, the environment and small business.
Keynote speakers are Nguon Chantha, co-founder and director of the Stung Treng Women's Development Center in Cambodia, and Jean Pape, M.D., founder and director of GHESKIO in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, the world's first HIV/AIDS treatment center.
Other speakers include:
• Brian Heuser, Ed.D., assistant professor in the Department of Leadership, Policy and Organizations at Vanderbilt's Peabody College, whose topic is entitled, “Public schools: the foundation for health and society;”
• Metropolitan Nashville Public Health Director William Paul, M.D., MPH, who will describe “the environmental and human health connection;” and
• James Schorr, MBA, clinical professor of Management at Vanderbilt's Owen Graduate School of Management, who will discuss “social entrepreneurship and poverty reduction.”
