Wilkinson Lecture to focus on informatics, pharmacogenomics
Russ Altman, M.D., Ph.D., chair of Bioengineering at Stanford University, will give the 7th annual Grant R. Wilkinson Distinguished Lecture in Clinical Pharmacology on Thursday, April 14.
Altman's lecture, entitled “The emergent network of biomedical data: Disparate sources link genes and drugs,” will begin at 8 a.m. in 208 Light Hall.
A professor of Bioengineering, Genetics and Medicine at Stanford, Altman studies the application of computing technology to problems in molecular biology that are relevant to medicine.
He is particularly interested in the intersection of informatics and pharmacogenomics, how genetic variation affects drug response.
The endowed Wilkinson lectureship was established in 2005 to honor Vanderbilt clinical pharmacologist and professor of Pharmacology, emeritus, Grant Wilkinson, Ph.D., D.Sc., who died in 2006.
Altman's lecture is sponsored by the Division of Clinical Pharmacology, the Department of Pharmacology and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.
