Charles Sanders, Ph.D., professor of Biochemistry and a core faculty member in the Center for Structural Biology, has been named to receive the 2012 Anatrace Membrane Protein Award.

Established in 2007, the award is presented by the Biophysical Society to one individual each year and was created to recognize an outstanding investigator who has made a significant contribution to the field of membrane protein research. The award is designed to promote membrane protein studies and recognize excellence in the field.
Sanders is being recognized for his “innovative research in the field of membrane protein structure using NMR spectroscopy and contributions both to the development of model membrane systems and to unraveling the biophysical mechanisms underlying diseases related to membrane protein misfolding and dysfunction.”
