Masters in health care management program event set
Now in its second year, the Master of Management in Health Care program is a one-year, part-time, 30-credit-hour Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management program for clinicians and health care administrators.
The Owen School will host an information session for prospective MMHC applicants on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at 5:30 p.m. in 208 Light Hall.
“As someone with a hand in developing the program at Owen, I can vouch for its relevance and usefulness to physician-managers, nurse-managers and other leaders across our clinical enterprise,” said C. Wright Pinson, M.D., MBA, deputy vice chancellor for Health Affairs and co-director of the MMHC program.
Pinson will be joined at the information session by Jon Lehman, associate dean for Health Care Management at Owen, and Sarah Fairbank, Owen School program director.
This year, VUMC will again provide MMHC tuition support for a limited number of Medical Center staff and faculty.
All applicants from the Medical Center will automatically be placed in consideration for tuition support. It's expected that VUMC faculty and staff will make up approximately half of the 30-member 2011 class.
The MMHC program seeks to enroll students with at least five years of management experience in health care, whether as clinical managers, physician-administrators or managers in other health related administrative areas.
The current class is approximately one-third physicians, one-third clinical managers and one-third non-clinical administrators, and the same mix is being sought for the 2011 class.
The deadline for applications is May 1. Classes start Aug. 15.
