Conway-Welch honored by local publication
Colleen Conway-Welch, Ph.D., R.N., dean of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing, was recently selected as one of the 2010 Women of Influence by the Nashville Business Journal.
Each year, the local business publication honors area businesswomen for their leadership and contributions to the community. This year, 30 women
Conway-Welch was selected in the nonprofit leadership category. This year, she celebrates her 25th anniversary as VUSN dean and, as such, is the second-longest sitting nursing school dean in the country. Perhaps most importantly, she has graduated more than 5,000 bachelor's, master's and Ph.D. students. This spring, she will also graduate Vanderbilt's first class of Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) students.
Conway-Welch has played an active role in nursing practice and education for more than four decades by serving on many committees, work groups and boards. Recently, she was named to Modern Healthcare's list of the Top 25 Women in Healthcare in the nation for 2009.
She is a member of the Board of Regents of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, the premier training program for military health care providers. In 2007, Conway-Welch was appointed to the Advisory Committee to the Director of the National Institutes of Health. She is also the founding director of the Nursing Emergency Preparedness Education Coalition.
Conway-Welch is a fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, a charter fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Science.
Both Conway-Welch and Chatman, who was named in the mentorship category, will be honored by the Nashville Business Journal at a luncheon on Feb. 4.
