Rosenbloom lands informatics award
S. Trent Rosenbloom, M.D., M.P.H., assistant professor of Biomedical Informatics and medical director of Vanderbilt University School of Nursing's Vine Hill Clinic, has received the New Investigator Award from the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA).
The AMIA's New Investigator Award recognizes “early informatics contributions and significant scholarly contributions on the basis of scientific merit and research excellence.”
Rosenbloom has worked on the evaluation of clinical informatics systems at Vanderbilt University Medical Center across a variety of platforms. His special research interest is evaluating clinical documentation systems, specialized terminologies and pediatric informatics systems, including growth charts in electronic health record systems.
“We can find ways to determine the most efficient best practices through clinical information systems, or, conversely, to determine unintended effects. I am interested in evaluating these clinical informatics systems to see if they are achieving the goals their developers, users and implementers have for them,” Rosenbloom said.
Vanderbilt has the largest academic Department of Biomedical Informatics in the country and has been internationally recognized over the years for its commitment to development of the science.
“Dr. Rosenbloom's well-deserved award is recognition of the high quality research that is being done by Vanderbilt's young informatics faculty, who are advancing a systems approach to care delivery with remarkable creativity and academic rigor,” said Dan Masys, M.D., chair of the Department of Biomedical Informatics.
Earlier this month, Rosenbloom traveled to the AMIA 2009 Annual Symposium on Biomedical and Health Informatics in San Francisco to receive his award.
