Orthopaedic surgery group elects Mencio
Gregory Mencio, M.D., professor of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation and chief of Pediatric Orthopaedics at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, has been elected secretary of the Board of Specialty Societies of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
“I am honored to have been elected to this position at a time when the health care landscape is being reshaped,” Mencio said.
Mencio's term started at the organization’s annual meeting in New Orleans in March. The position is a four-year commitment on the Board of Specialty Societies and includes a three-year appointment to the board of directors of the AAOS.
“I am looking forward to the opportunity to work with orthopaedic leadership over the next four years to clarify the vision of the future of orthopaedic surgery as a profession and to the challenges of representing the interests of the sub-specialty societies within our field as we collectively attempt to develop solutions to issues that impact all orthopaedic surgeons and, most importantly, our ability to continue to deliver quality care to our patients,” Mencio said.
The board, created in 1984, brings together 22 musculoskeletal specialty societies to address topics such as advocacy, continuing medical education, research, and residency and fellowship issues.
