Satcher lecture set for Sept. 23
Deborah Prothrow-Stith, M.D., M.P.H., associate dean and professor of Public Health Practice at the Harvard School of Public Health, will give the Dean’s Lecture for the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine as this year’s Masters in Public Health (MPH) Program's Satcher Lecturer.

Prothrow-Stith will speak on the topic of "Making a Difference in Communities through Public Health" on Sept. 23 at noon in 208 Light Hall.
Prothrow-Stith is a leader in non-violence and the application of rigorous science to reinforce and promote violence prevention programs.
Author of “Deadly Consequences,” a public health perspective on violence, she has also authored violence prevention curriculum for adolescents, now used as the basis for violence prevention in many schools.
A Spelman College and Harvard Medical School graduate, Prothrow-Stith has received ten honorary doctorates, the 1993 World Health Day Award, the 1989 Secretary of Health and Human Service Award, and a Presidential appointment to the National Commission on Crime Control and Prevention.
During her visit she will also hold small group discussions with the current Satcher Scholars.
The Vanderbilt MPH David Satcher Public Health Scholars Program awards merit-based scholarships (full tuition) to Vanderbilt Master of Public Health applicants from underrepresented minority groups.
