Plume’s music therapy work gains national recognition
Music Therapist Jenny Plume has been recognized by Therapy Times as one of the 2008 Most Influential.
The award recognizes “movers and shakers” from all facets of the therapy industry.
Plume was acknowledged for “singlehandedly revolutionizing” the music therapy program at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, which is sponsored by the Julian T. Fouce Fund.
Since taking her post in early 2007, Plume has organized the “Band in a Bag” program and “Music Days,” which brings in musicians to play and interact with patients and families.
She is currently working to produce a CD featuring songs written by patients recorded in a studio with a professional band and well-known artists from the community.
“I am so surprised and honored to have this recognition,” Plume said. “The success of the music therapy program is definitely due to the wonderful support and team efforts of all of the staff here at the hospital. It also needs to be recognized that music itself is a key player in the healing process of the kids.
“It can be not only emotional and exciting, but also calming and familiar, and it is a reliable tool that I can use to work together with patients and their families to help them to cope in the most positive way possible.”
