Children’s Hospital names Pediatric Trauma manager
Barbara Shultz, R.N., has been named to the newly created position of Pediatric Trauma manager at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. Shultz joined Children's Hospital earlier this year as the coordinator of the Comprehensive Regional Pediatric Center (CRPC).
"We are very pleased that we were able to recruit a professional nurse of this caliber to Children's Hospital. Barbara's past experiences will serve her well in this role,” said Patricia Givens, assistant hospital director of Nursing & Clinical Services at Children's Hospital.
Shultz has nearly 20 years of nursing and leadership experience in this field as well as a passion and commitment to child safety.
“In her new role, we anticipate that she will continue to positively impact the care of the pediatric trauma patient at Children's Hospital as well as improving prevention and education through her involvement in community and state outreach activities," Givens said.
As part of the newly created position, Shultz will serve as the liaison between Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Critical Care and other departments and services that provide trauma care for children.
She will also respond to pediatric Level 1 trauma alerts when on duty, among other responsibilities.
Shultz came to Vanderbilt from the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, where she worked as the senior coordinator for the pediatric trauma program and the coordinator of the injury prevention program.
She has published, presented lectures and seminars and participated in several grants related to pediatric trauma.
A search is under way for a new CRPC coordinator.
