SEPTEMBER 23

9:30-10:30 a.m. — Blessing of Hands (VUH 8108-9).

Noon-1 p.m. — Brown Bag, John Byrne, M.D., “Sighted Cardiac Surgery” (206 PRB). Byrne will discuss Vanderbilt's 'hybrid' OR/cath lab, which enables cardiac surgeons and interventional cardiologists to perform image-guided surgery, 'hybrid' revascularizations and minimally invasive surgery. Vanderbilt is among the first in the USA to offer this approach.

Noon-1 p.m. — Brown Bag, Mark Cannon, Ph.D., “Life Coaching’s Effect on Employees” (Fireside Reading Room, Peabody Library). Learn what life coaching is, why it has become popular and how you might use the approach for your own development and for the development of others.

SEPTEMBER 24

3-5 p.m. — Tailgate (Natchez Field). Faculty-Staff Tailgate with food, children's games, music and fun will be held before the Vanderbilt-Richmond game. SEPTEMBER 26

Noon-1 p.m. — Brown Bag, Anne Washburn, “Making Informed Decisions about Complementary and Alternative Medicine” (898 PRB). This presentation will highlight what is CAM; why people choose to use CAM; what users need to know about choosing CAM modalities. In addition, a pharmacist will give an overview of the use of dietary supplements and answer questions.

1-2 p.m. — Brown Bag, Kim Hunter, True Blue Salon, “Make an Appearance” (189 Sarratt).

2:30-3:30 p.m. — Blessing of Hands (2704 TVC); 9-10 p.m. (8009 VCH).

Free Day at the Frist

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to enjoy the Frist Center for the Visual Arts. Enjoy Frist's fall exhibitions including Deborah Aschheim: Neural Architecture, Hudson River School- Masterworks from the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art and Cumberland Exposures: Student Nature Photography. The Frist Center is open from 10 a.m.- 5:30 p.m. Free admission to VU students, staff, and faculty with VU ID, children under 18 are free, general admission $8.50, senior citizens (65+) $7.50. Shuttles will depart from the round wing at 11 a.m. and run continuously. Last shuttle departs Frist at 1:30 p.m.

Noon-1 p.m. — Brown Bag, Mark Webber and Mike Whittler, “Decorating Tips” (116 Sarratt). Tips on decorating from Mark Webber and Mike Whittler of Branches. The boys from Branches are back with us again this year, up to their usual antics, and promising to bring us up to date on all the latest floral trends for entertaining!

Noon-1 p.m. — Brown Bag, Scott Cooper and Mike Shew, “Everything you wanted to know about Osteoarthritis, but were afraid to ask!” (Sports Medicine, MCE South Tower). Who is at risk and who is affected by ostetoarthritis? What are the causes? What are the signs and symptoms? Can exercise and lifestyle change have a positive effect? Come learn the answers to all these questions and more.

4-6 p.m. — Finale (Olin Hall Plaza). Come out for this exciting celebration featuring surprise musical guests.
