The Earl W. Sutherland Jr. Symposium on Signal Transduction and conferring of the newly established Earl W. Sutherland Jr. Chair in Pharmacology to Heidi E. Hamm, Ph.D. will be held Thursday, May 10 from 1 to 5:30 p.m. in 208 Light Hall.
Hamm, professor and chair of Pharmacology, will present “Regulation of G Protein-Mediated Signal Transduction.” Lee E. Limbird, Ph.D., associate vice chancellor for Research, will present “G Protein Coupled Receptors: Multiple Mechanisms for Achieving Signaling Specificity.”
Other speakers include Lewis C. Cantley, Ph.D., of Harvard Medical School; Joseph P. Noel, Ph.D., from the Salk Institute; and John Scott, Ph.D., from the Vollum Institute.
A reception in the south lobby of Light Hall will follow the symposium.
Sutherland was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in 1971 for his discoveries concerning the role of cyclic AMP. In 1973, the President presented him with the National Medal of Science.
