'Family Reunion' conference brings Gore back to VUMC
The sixth "Family Reunion" conference moderated by Vice President Al Gore will begin and end Wednesday, June 25, with sessions at Langford Auditorium on the Vanderbilt University Medical Center campus.
The VUMC campus is expected to be very busy as a result of security measures, registration of some 900 participants outside Langford and the movement of the Vice President and conference participants between the Medical Center and the Peabody campus for mid-day sessions.
"The world will be watching Vanderbilt and our medical center on June 25, and I hope that attention will outweigh any inconvenience to faculty and staff as well as patients and their families," said Bill Purcell, director of the Child and Family Policy Center at the Vanderbilt Institute for Public Policy Studies, a sponsor of the conference.
"We are working closely with VUMC staff to keep disruptions to a minimum."
Attendance at the conference is by invitation only.
Registration is expected to begin at 7:30 a.m., and the event is expected to conclude by 5 p.m.
Details were developing at press time, but VUMC staff and faculty should expect periodic street closures throughout the day, closing of some parking lots, and changes in some staff shuttle routes.
The first, second and third floors of Light Hall will be closed. This includes the Medical School Bookstore and medical student lockers.
To potentially limit inconveniences, faculty, staff and students are urged to make sure they have their identification badges with them when they arrive on campus June 25.
As more details become available, fliers will be distributed throughout the Medical Center.
