On Monday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m., Light Hall will join a growing list of VUMC facility entrances that now have physical security systems in place to increase employee and visitor safety.

The Light Hall, North Lobby Plaza (east) entrance will be the facility’s only entrance. Light Hall’s North Lobby (west) entrance across from the Veteran’s Administration Hospital will remain locked, including the rear doors to Medical Research Building 4.

Going forward, all pedestrian traffic will enter Light Hall through the Plaza (east) entrance.

As with all secure entrances at VUMC, employees will continue to be required to display their VUMC ID badges to enter.

Physical security system installations are part of a phased plan to complement current policies and procedures, and other actions, which work together to create and maintain a safer environment for all patients, families, learners, visitors and employees.

Current VUMC policy prohibits firearms on campus. Anyone found to have a weapon during screening will be asked to remove the weapon from the premises before being allowed to enter a building.

Since March, VUMC has implemented physical security systems at Medical Center North, Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, the Medical Arts Building, Vanderbilt Psychiatric Hospital, Vanderbilt Eye Institute, The Vanderbilt Clinic, Preston Research Building, Vanderbilt University Hospital and Medical Center East.

As part of the overall physical security plan, enhanced security measures will be implemented at additional facilities soon.
