Holly Bobo, RN, works in the Intensive Care Unit at Vanderbilt Bedford County Hospital. She is one of the latest Vanderbilt Health DAISY Award winners.
From the nomination
“My wife and I came to the hospital because she had SEVERE abdominal pain. Naturally, we were both very frightened about what it could be. After emergency surgery to take care of the issue we found ourselves in the ICU where we met Miss Holly.
“I find it difficult to find the correct words to describe this wonderful person. Excellent, passionate, caring and superior only come close to fully describing the unbelievably high level of service we received while we were there. It’s one thing to be attentive to the medicine part of having a patient, and she was. But what REALLY moved my wife and me was her understanding of the fear and concern my wife was feeling. Sadly, both of us have had frustrations recently with the medical field making us feel like a number on an assembly line with the hurry up attitude. Miss Holly is the polar opposite of that. Time and again she came to the bedside, squatted down, held my wife’s hand and actually listened to her. Her tone and genuine concern were beyond touching.
“I’m certain that Miss Holly’s warmth and reassurance greatly assisted in my wife’s speedy recovery. She is a credit to her profession, and her hospital, Vanderbilt Bedford. We will never be able to say thank you enough.”
About DAISY Awards
The DAISY Award is a recognition for extraordinary nurses who exemplify compassion toward patients and families.
Vanderbilt Health distributes the award in partnership with The DAISY Foundation, which was formed in 1999 to honor the memory of J. Patrick Barnes, a 33-year-old man who died of complications of the autoimmune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). Barnes’ family was moved by the care they received from his nurses and wanted to recognize them to preserve his memory. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.
Vanderbilt Health nurse committees determine the individual recipients. Previous recipients of the DAISY Award are here. The award is open to all licensed nurses, and anyone can nominate — including co-workers, patients and their families.
