Vanderbilt Health has been recognized as a “Wellbeing First Champion” by the Dr. Lorna Breen Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting the mental health of health care workers and that works to support and protect health workers’ well-being and mental health through a variety of initiatives and advocacy.
The award is a recognition that Vanderbilt Health’s credentialing applications do not contain what the foundation describes as “overly broad and invasive mental health questions” that could potentially discourage people working in health care from seeking help.
“Like everyone, health workers deserve the right to pursue mental health care confidentially,” the foundation said in a statement. “Removing these overly invasive mental health questions in our applications brings us one step closer in changing the culture in health care and ensuring our health workers know their mental health well-being is a priority.”

Lori Rolando, MD, MPH, Executive Director of Faculty and Staff Health and Wellness, led the effort to apply for the recognition.
“The application process really was a group effort for which I’m so thankful to the many colleagues who contributed,” she said.
“Supporting our employees’ mental well-being is just as important as supporting their physical well-being, and combating stigma around mental health care is key to that endeavor. This recognition itself is truly a testament to Vanderbilt Health’s commitment to supporting our community’s mental health and well-being.”
Vanderbilt Health has resources in place to support all employees. The Work/Life Connections-Employee Assistance Program is available to provide confidential support for employees and spouses who are having a hard time dealing with life challenges.
The Dr. Lorna Breen Foundation’s ALL IN for Mental Health initiative curates evidence-based and evidence-informed mental health resources, services and programs for health care workers.
