Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society has named the Vanderbilt Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy (CPPA) as the sole recipient of the 2016 Edward D. Harris Professionalism Award.

Vanderbilt’s Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy (CPPA) has announced a partnership with the Cognitive Institute, an international health care education provider based in Australia.

William O. Cooper, M.D., MPH, Cornelius Vanderbilt Professor of Pediatrics, professor and vice chair for Faculty Affairs in the Department of Pediatrics, and professor of Health Policy, has been promoted and will have two new roles. He will now also serve as associate dean for Faculty Affairs within the Faculty Affairs & Career Development Office in the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine and as director of the Vanderbilt Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy (CPPA).

Gerald Hickson, M.D., assistant vice chancellor for Health Affairs, associate dean for Faculty Affairs and the Joseph C. Ross Professor of Medical Education and Administration, is being promoted to the newly created position of senior vice president for Quality, Patient Safety and Risk Prevention.

Vanderbilt’s Center for Patient and Professional Advocacy has named its inaugural class of 34 scholarship recipients to participate in the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety’s (CBPPS) certification program.

Gerald Hickson, M.D., assistant vice chancellor for Health Affairs at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has been named chairman of the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) Board of Directors as well as chairman of the Certification Board for Professionals in Patient Safety.
