VUMC, Nashville Fire Department test real-time medical record system to improve handoff of incoming emergency patients

VUMC and the Nashville Fire Department are testing a system to automatically generate patient acuity scores and abbreviated care records of in-transit patient procedures based on computer interpretations of signals from sensors and video cameras.

Children’s Hospital debuts enhanced helipad

The return of the Children’s Hospital helipad, painted with the hospital’s trademark paper dolls, will shorten the transport time for patients by several minutes — essentially eliminating the need to shuttle patients along a 400-yard connector to reach the freestanding, pediatric hospital.

McKinney named to direct Emergency Medical Services

Over the past decade, the Department of Emergency Medicine has significantly expanded its Division of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to oversee the medical care of the Nashville Fire Department and Nashville EMS, the Nashville International Airport, the region’s 911 Dispatch Center, Vanderbilt LifeFlight, Vanderbilt LifeFlight Event Medicine and Metro Nashville’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.
