An international expert on slavery and emancipation during the 18th and 19th centuries was awarded the prestigious Earl Sutherland Prize for Achievement in Research during Vanderbilt University’s Fall Faculty Assembly.

Twenty retiring faculty members were recognized during Vanderbilt’s Commencement ceremony May 9, when the university honored their years of service and bestowed on them the title of emeritus or emerita faculty.

After an extensive national search, Susan R. Wente has been named provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, Chancellor Nicholas S. Zeppos announced today.

Vanderbilt University’s Board of Trust has approved the construction of a seven-story tower on campus as part of an effort to further strengthen the institution’s growing reputation as a major producer of intellectual leaders, entrepreneurs and innovators.

Vanderbilt’s schools of business, education, law and medical research were all selected in the top 25 in their categories of the best graduate schools as ranked by "U.S. News & World Report."
