Organ & Blood Donation

Honor walk video from Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital honors two organ donors and their families

The two organ procurements were the first at VWCH in almost five years

Janet Darnell received a lifesaving lung transplant. Five months later she received lifesaving surgery for colon cancer. She calls herself a “walking miracle.”

Without the lung transplant, the cancer may never have been detected.

Pies in the face mark the end of the first round of blood donation challenge. Your donation may determine who gets the next pie.

Shon Dwyer smooshed a pie into the face of Tom Nantais. Mary Pawlikowski smooshed a pie into the face of Meg Rush. Who’s next?

In memory of Kyle

Last year, an honor walk for paramedic Kyle Fisher went viral. Now, his mother, a nurse at Vanderbilt Wilson County Hospital, is promoting organ donation in his memory.

As a nurse, she supported organ donation. As a mother, Kim Cantu never expected the donor to be her son.

Sky Cantu donated his heart, liver and both kidneys, saving four lives in the process.

Kevin Hartley was an organ donor, and his mother had one wish: to hear her son’s heartbeat one more time

Thanks to his heart recipient, Rhonda Lucas, she got the chance.
