Breast cancer events planned

The Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center will offer the 2001 Breast Cancer Health Forum, a series of free informational events and a luncheon, during October in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The annual luncheon will be Tuesday, Oct. 23, 12:30 p.m.-1:45 p.m., at the Loews Vanderbilt Plaza Hotel.

At this year’s event, the Frances Williams Preston Award for Breast Cancer Awareness—named in honor of BMI’s president and CEO—will be presented to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and its president and CEO, Susan Braun. Braun and the foundation will be honored for their work in raising awareness and research funds through Race for the Cure and other initiatives.

The month-long series of events will also include the following brown-bag lunches and dinners. Unless otherwise noted, all are in the 8th floor conference center at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, Frances Williams Preston Building, corner of Pierce and 23rd avenues, with parking across the street in the Capers Garage.

“Does Breast Cancer Run in Your Family?” Oct. 9 at 5:15 p.m., at Vanderbilt-Ingram, and Oct. 30 at noon at the Sarratt Student Center on the Vanderbilt campus.

“Nutrition on the Fly,” Oct. 10, noon, Hecht’s at Cool Springs Mall; Oct. 17, noon, Hecht’s at Green Hills Mall; and Oct. 31, noon, Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

“Cancer 101: The Biology of Breast Cancer,” Oct. 12, noon, Vanderbilt-Ingram.

“The Beaded Necklace Project,” Oct. 16, noon, Vanderbilt-Ingram.

“Life Balance,” Oct. 17, 6 p.m., Gilda’s Club Nashville, 1033 18th Ave., S.

“Rx: Breast Cancer Information,” an Internet workshop, Oct. 19, noon, Vanderbilt-Ingram.

“Healing Within: A Workshop,” Oct. 20, 10 a.m.-noon, Cool Springs YMCA, Brentwood (co-sponsored by the After Breast Cancer Program at the Y and the Minnie Pearl Foundation).

“Ask the Expert: A Multi-Modality Workshop,” Oct. 25, 5:15 p.m., Vanderbilt-Ingram.
