Colleen Conway-Welch, Ph.D., dean of the Vanderbilt School of Nursing, was recently appointed to the Institute of Medicine’s Provisional Committee on Institutional and Policy Strategies for Increasing the Diversity of the Healthcare Workforce.

This committee will assess and describe potential benefits of greater racial and ethnic diversity among health professionals, in an effort to improve access to and the quality of health care for all Americans. The committee will also assess institutional and policy-level strategies that may increase diversity within the health professions.

The mission of the Institute of Medicine is to advance and deliver scientific knowledge to improve human health. The Institute provides information and advice concerning health and science policy to government, the corporate sector, professions, and the public.
