Dey to helm unit at Cincinnati Children’s
S.K. Dey, Ph.D., director of the Division of Reproductive and Developmental Biology at Vanderbilt Medical Center, will leave this month to direct a newly established Division of Reproductive Sciences at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
“I have been privileged and honored to serve Vanderbilt University for the last six years with great pride and accomplishments,” said Dey, who recently received an international award for his creative and significant contributions to the field of reproductive biology.
“I strongly believe that I will be able to maintain my collaborations with Vanderbilt faculty, and perhaps in a more productive way by combining intellectual and infrastructural resources of two great institutions,” he said.
“We are fortunate to have had Dr. Dey at Vanderbilt, where he has made significant contributions to the field of reproductive biology,” said Jeff Balser, M.D., Ph.D., associate vice chancellor for Research and interim dean of the School of Medicine. “We wish him the best in his new position, and know he will continue to make discoveries that will expand our knowledge of factors that affect pregnancy outcome.”
Dey was a member of the faculty at the University of Kansas for nearly 30 years before coming to Vanderbilt in 2002. His group was the first to show that the embryo and uterus communicate with each other for optimal attachment throughout implantation and early pregnancy.
The new Division of Reproductive Sciences at Cincinnati Children's will focus on understanding the mechanisms underlying infertility, prematurity and reproductive diseases, said Dey, who also will be the Lova Riekert Chair and Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.
